Fashion weeks in crescendo

Style.com and Suzy Menkes review Fashion Weeks much better and deeper than I do. I can’t compete. So I just pick what I’ve like the most of NY, London and Milan, which have improved in crescendo, until the explosion is coming now in Paris, where the genuine fashion spectacle takes place.

New York

Calvin Klein‘s collection is breathtaking. Francisco Costa is really becoming a legend. I’ve been desappointed by most of the other shows, even Marc Jacobs’, although he got great reviews all over.

Christopher Kane‘s show was jus SO BEAUTIFUL. His dresses have been sold out several times on net-a-porter so far. This young designer is becoming one of my favs.

Milan

Just three names make worthy Milano Donna every season: Prada, Jil Sander (by godness Raf Simons) and Marni.

Raf Simons can’t stop dessigning the epitome of beauty for Jil Sander. Even a model cried while walking the catwalk, probably suffering from Stendhal syndrome (I borrowed this witty idea from Te lo juro por Dior).

Por cuestión de diseño (y de pereza) me venía fatal poner esto en español. Pero no hay mucho que leer. Sólo hay que ver las fotos de los desfiles que más han merecido la pena de las semanas de la moda que acaban de concluir. Van in crescendo. Nueva York ha estado muy regulera y ha acusado visiblemente el encogimiento ante la crisis. En Londres me ha decpecionado bastante mi querido Charles Anastase, pero no lo han hecho así los geniales Christopher Kane y Richard Nicoll, que solitos consiguen que la semana de la moda londinense merezca la pena, por mucho que se diga por ahí que no vale nada. Y Milán cuenta con Prada, Jil Sander (por Raf Simons) y Marni. Con eso se basta y se sobra. También me han gustado bastante los desfiles de Burberry Prorsum y Missoni. París ha empezado ya y ahí todo se va de madre; no podré escoger sólo cuatro desfiles, que sería la sucesión lógica.

Fashion votes for Obama

As Obama and McCain finish off their propaganda, Zac Posen is also doing so with such an insane commercial!!! The video lasts only 19 seconds and it’s really worthy: his outfit and his showman skills. I wish presidential elections were such a funny thing in Spain…

Appart from Posen, many designers (Diane von Fustenberg, Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler, Alexander Wang…) have launched Obama items that can be purchased at his offical site, although most of them are already sold out. Anna Wintour has helped to raise between 100.000 and 200.000 dolars for democrats. Calvin Klain has also been a fundraiser and Donatella Versace dedicated her men S/S 2009 collection to Barack Obama. At latest Paris fashion shows, Sonia Rykiel included sweaters that read “I have a dream” and “Obama”, Castelbajac showed a dress with Obama’s face on it, and Stella McCartney wrote “P.S. Vote Obama!!” on her show’s program notes. New York Fashion Week was more subtle: quite a few black models were casted and Marc Jacobs’ collection was inpired by 19th century inmigration.

El vídeo de arriba de Zac Posen es lo mejor. Sólo dura 19 segundos y merece la pena verlo, de verdad. De repente  el chico se ha convertido en un agresivo activista político que pide el voto a Obama con gafas de sol, un montón de chapas y acercándose a cámara con actitud amenazante: “Make the future… LOOK GOOD”. Ni Zoolander. Por fin la política se pone interesante, oye.

Muchos otros diseñadores también han pedido el voto por Obama, aunque sin ese magistral gracejo frívolo de Posen. En la página oficial del candidato se pueden adquirir bolsos, camisetas y pulseras de Diane von Fustenberg, Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler, Alexander Wang… Aunque la mayoría están agotados. Anna Wintour ha recaudado entre 100.000 y 200.000 dólares para su adorado Barack, Calvin Klein también ha donado fondos para la campaña y Donatella Versace le dedicó su colección masculina de primavera/verano 2009. En los últimos desfiles de París, Sonia Rykiel presentó jerséis con los lemas “I have a dream” y “Obama”, Castelbajac mostró un espantoso vestido con el careto de Obama y Stella McCartney puso un exhortativo “vota a Obama” en el programa de su desfile. En Nueva York, sin embargo, han sido mucho más sutiles (tan preocupados ellos por vender), y han limitado su activismo a guiños como dedicar una colección a la inmigración americana en el siglo XIX (Marc Jacobs) y a sacar más modelos negras que en los últimos 10 años juntos. Claro que Diane von Fustenberg, presidenta de la CFDA y seguidora confesa del partido demócrata, ha tenido mucho que ver en eso.

Preen. Soy taaaaaaan fan. No entiendo por qué no se habla más de ellos.

El regreso de las modelos negras. Se han visto muchas, sobre todo en Zac Posen, aunque no entiendo ni el maquillaje, ni el peinado, ni los pendientes que presenta. Demasiado de todo.

Come back of black models. There have been a lot, especially at Zac Posen’s, even though I don’t understant neither make up and hair, nor earrings at his show. Too much of everything.

El empujón a Kisrten Dunst. Aunque la presentación de Boy by Band of Outsiders me parece bastante cutre y con intenciones demasiado comerciales (una proyección de Kirsten Dunst vistiendo los looks), me alegro por Kiki. Es la más estilosa de Hollywood y, después de su depresión, su autoestima agradece todo piropo.

Cheering up Kirsten Dunst. Even though I found the presentation of Boy of Outsiders collection quite crappie and too selling-focused (a video featuring Kirsten Dunst wearing all the looks), I’m happy for Kiki. She’s the most stylish one at Hollywood and, after her depression, her self-esteem thanks some support.

And, of course, Marc Jacobs.
