Winter and Autumn Boot Ideas

It’s that time of year again. We are on the cusp; sun-filled days of summer are about to be eclipsed by the darkness of autumn and winter. The recent bout of sunshine is only lulling us all into a false sense of security. Winter is coming and there’s nothing we can do to stop it, even if we have only had a month’s worth of summer.

However, don’t view the impending darkness as a bad thing. This year, darkness is a good thing. Gothic, grungy, romances are to be had with flowing, ethereal black maxi dresses, black leather bomber jackets, lace and sheer bodices, kohl-lined eyes and blood red lips. There will be flings with colour, opulence and grandeur as the baroque trend moves in; gold, amber, emerald, sapphire, ruby and amethyst colour velvet, crepe, canvas, wool and silk. Embroidery brings clothes to life with patterns of flowers, birds and landscapes. It’s dreamlike with a hard edge.

Think Vivienne Westwood in the late 1980s.

There are other trends and myriad sub-trends, but these two will be the biggest, with plenty of punky androgynous tweed, herringbone and coloured denim thrown in for good measure.

Key pieces will be an embellished jacket, a crucifix necklace, a leather skirt, a two-piece tweed suit – skirt or trousers – embroidered blouse, lace crop top or sheer bodice, homespun knitwear, chunky boots and Mary-Jane heels.

Let us help you get the shoe aspect sorted. Next has a huge collection of high-heeled boots and women’s shoes to choose from. Here are three of our favourite styles.
