We all know it’s the first thing you put on in the morning and the last thing you take off at night; so it’s essential that your lingerie is the correct size and fit and is properly cared for!

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting who gave me three great lingerie tips. What a fabulous insight and now I’m delighted to share this expert advice with you

“Are you wearing the correct size bra?”

It is really important to ensure that you are wearing the correct bra size and support for your body shape. Ideally you should have a bra fitting every 6 months but if this isn’t possible, here are some indications that you may be wearing the wrong bra size:

If your bra straps are always slipping off your shoulders – even after tightening them – you need to be wearing a smaller back size.
If the cups look wrinkled or the underwire is too big you need a smaller cup size.
If you breasts are bulging out, the underwire is cutting into your skin or the centre piece is standing away from the body, you need a bigger cup size.

The purpose of the bra is to bear the weight of the breasts which when unsupported may cause back, shoulder and neck pain and can also lead to headaches. When wearing the correct bra and providing support to your breasts, you will achieve a more slender figure.
“Which fit effect do you want?”

When purchasing lingerie – especially for a particular outfit – you need to consider which fit effect you should aim for. ‘Four Fit Effects’:

Enveloping Effect – high neckline – Full cup bra
Shaping Effect – T shirts & a variety of necklines – T-shirt bra
Plunging Effect – V Neck top – Push up bra
Uplifting Effect – Squared neckline – Balconette or Half Cup

Bras stretch as you wear them so when you buy a bra, always start on the loosest hook and as it stretches over time you can move to the tightest hook.
Avoid folding T-shirt bras in your drawers as it will damage the cups.
Try to hand wash your lingerie as it will last longer. However if you don’t have time to hand wash it, always use a lingerie bag in the washing machine and set it to the Hand Wash Cycle.
