No conocía a estos diseñadores. Mal, lo sé. Pero es que es la primera vez que desfilan a lo grande en la New York Fashion Week, después de que en julio fueran nominados a la CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, una dotación económica que premia a jóvenes promesas y que en anteriores ediciones han recibido firmas como Proenza Schouler y Doo.Ri.

Daughters by Obedient Sons son un matrimonio cuyo miembro masculino, Swaim Hutson, empezó haciendo ropa para hombre en 2001. Hace dos años, su esposa Christina se unió al proyecto, y sólo a comienzos de este año se han iniciado en la moda femenina. Podéis leer una entrevista aquí. Me encantan los cortes de las prendas: limpios y muy bien hechos. El concepto: humor pero con muuucha elegancia. Modernindad sosegada, a fuego lento. Desde luego, me parecen mil veces mejores que Alexander Wang, otro de los nominados al premio, al que le sobra hype y le falta casi todo lo demás, por mucho que Anna Wintour vaya a verle.

I didn’t know these designers before and now, after their first major show at New York Fashion Week, I totally love them. Swaim Hutson started a menswear label in 2001, he married Christina, she joined his project a couple of years ago and they started doing also womenswear early this year. Recently, the couple has been nominated to CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, together with other upcoming designers, such as Alexander Wang. I find the latter too much of a hype and too little of everything else, no matter if Anna Wintour attends his catwalk. To me, Daughters by Obedient Sons are much better, specially because of their clean cuts and their elegant sense of humour. That is the classy modenity, the coolness that remains… The one built up subtly, I mean.
